JIB Accountant Needed for Oil & Gas Company

Job Description/Responsibilities

Currently seeking a Joint Interest Billing Accountant to help manage the continued growth of oil & gas company in Irving. Seeking a candidate with JIB experience on operated and non-operated properties. This position will be responsible for various monthly joint interest billing reporting functions for the Company. The position requires a self-starter capable of working independently with good decision making skills.  Must be knowledgeable in various aspects of the JIB process and capable of interacting with internal and external partners. Must be deadline focused and able to manage time and personnel effectively to meet the departmental deadlines.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Process monthly joint interest billings
  • Research and respond to joint interest owner inquiries related to joint interest bills in a timely manner
  • Perform account reconciliations and analysis for joint interest accounts receivable
  • Provide accounts receivable explanations as requested per monthly management reports
  • Correspond with partners to resolve historical accounts receivable balances
  • Ensure compliance with JOA and consistency with COPAS – producing overhead rates
  • Review all Non-Op JIB invoices and coding during monthly close process
  • Review and clear past disputes in a timely fashion
  • Work directly with Land on any WI % discrepancies and A/R collection issues
  • Request revenue check pulls and monitor payment status with cash receipts
  • Perform JIB netting analysis and set up new partners, as necessary
  • Research undelivered/returned joint interest bills
  • Prepare, develop and maintain all cost center allocations utilized in monthly JIB processing
  • Insurance analysis & reconciliation
  • Assist with annual financial and joint venture audits
  • Other ad hoc duties as required
  • Work constructively with Land, Accounting, Regulatory, and Operations
  • Assist with appropriate internal controls including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley

Job Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or higher required
  • Experience with oil and gas JIB accounting required – five plus years preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Knowledge of COPAS Bulletins, procedures and joint operating agreements
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, team environment, as projects will require collaboration with both finance/accounting, operational and land department teams
  • Work effectively as a team player, and maintain a positive and productive work environment
  • Capacity to recognize areas of improvement and offer sound solutions
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
